Artificial Art

by Tom Krojer

Can the computer be programmed to work creatively? Is it possible to create a computer programme which simulates some of the creative processes of art?

Those are the questions I am trying to answer in this experiment, and I believe that by this I have found a valuable starting point from which unique, versatile and positive answers will be derived. For one thing, we see that conceptual art is a multi-facetted and maturing work aimed at deloping the creative character of art. Also, computer programming languages have become progressively more flexible, and are able to represent the most heterogenous phenomena. Furthermore, the computer can be supplemented with auxillary units in order to realize the works in more tangible form. I am thinking here in terms of colour printers, numerically controlled lathes and torch cutters, etc. If we combine all this, we might be justified in speaking of a sort of artificial or synthetic art.
